Abstract

Under the leadership of new director Kathleen Brown, Portland's Department of Economic Development is focused on business retention, and plans to visit every city business. The department's other programs include the Downtown Portland Corporation's revolving loan fund, site selection and lease negotiation for new businesses, and a business hotline. Brown credits Maine's excellent telecommunications network and the quality of life in Portland for part of her success.
