Abstract
A few years ago, the Songo River Trading Company in Portland opened a store of Maine-made products in Nagoya, Japan. Now it deals direct with Japanese retailers, bypassing the layers of dealers and distributors typical of business in Japan. Its Maine House store is both a retail outlet and a showroom for other retailers to buy Songo River products at wholesale for their own outlets.
