Abstract

"Business Maine: Statewide" piece reporting that the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) recently approved a $12 million Verizon plan to expand high-speed Internet access to 35,000 more Mainers. The agreement would increase the amount of Verizon landline customers with access to DSL broadband to 70 percent. The decision was part of an agreement between Verizon and the PUC, which suspended deliberations on Verizon's telephone rate in Maine until the proposed merger between the company and North Carolina-based Fairpoint Communications is resolved.
