Abstract

Couples own nearly half of Maine businesses. A look at several couples in business together and how they make it work. Judy Libby and Steve Brown own Brown Goldsmiths in Freeport and recommend finding time apart. Frank Isganitis and P.J. Walter, owners of LimeRock Inn in Rockland, and choclatiers Victoria and Charles Hamilton of Nutmeg Foods in South Portland successfully balance their business and personal partnerships. Candice and Dan Heydon of Oyster Creek Mushroom Company in Damariscotta, Scott and Michelle Vicnaire of Regal Printing & Graphics in Brewer, and Abe and Heather Furth of Woodman's Bar & Grill in Orono also combine both worlds. Ann Marie Orr of Ann Marie's Kitchen in Bangor and Margaret Lyons of the Snug in Portland say business friction helped end their relationships.
