Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Sanford "Sandy" Blitz, the new regional administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for New England. Blitz, 70, has extensive federal government experience, and will manage the SBA New England's financing, marketing and outreach programs. He will also oversee the agency's loan and microloan programs. In the 2006/2007 fiscal year, the SBA guaranteed 5,649 loans totaling $836 million to New England businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Maine received roughly $96 million of those loans. Blitz and his wife live in the small northern Maine town of Hudson.
