Abstract

"Business Maine" piece reporting that Nestle Waters North America Inc., owners of Poland Spring, has designed a new plastic bottle that purportedly uses as much as 30 percent less plastic than the average half-liter plastic bottle. The label has also been downsized to cut down on paper. Poland Spring says the new "Eco-Shape" bottle is indicative of its commitment to the environment. Bottled water, once the symbol of an eco-conscious consumer, has of late become a sign of wastefulness due to the use of petroleum-based plastic and the trucking costs to transport the water.
