Abstract

"Focus on Transportation & Trade" piece on a new international bridge and customs station being built in Calais, the country's first new bridge into Canada in three decades. Opening in November, the station will separate commercial and passenger traffic to ease congestion. Currently, summer waits of four to five hours are not uncommon. Designed by Robert Siegel Architects of New York, the design excellence project is on track to receive LEED Gold certification. With details on how the bridge, which could divert traffic from downtown Calais, might affect the town's economy.
