Abstract

"Focus on Education & Training" piece with an interview with Susan Swanton, executive director of the Maine Marine Trades Association, on the impact of the state's North Star Alliance Initiative--a four-year collaboration to invigorate Maine's boatbuilding and composites industries. The $14.4 million federal Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant ended in January, but she hopes the collaboration will continue. A report on the alliance says the cluster has created 533 new jobs and provided training for 1,879 Maine residents, as well as sparking over $73.5 million in funds, investments, and grants.
