Abstract

"Focus on Down East region" piece on the Cobscook Bay Co., created by the Cobscook Community Learning Center in Trescott Township to produce Maine Fresh seafood pies as a funding source for the center. Most of the ingredients used are from Washington County or elsewhere in Maine. Through an advisory committee, the company received consulting in areas like branding and marketing it otherwise could not have afforded. Award-winning chef Sam Hayward of Fore Street restaurant in Portland developed the recipes and identified local ingredients. A $2.2 million capital campaign to build a new facility is currently in the works.
