Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Tim Bell, the new head of the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, a 14,000-member group that lobbies to preserve natural resources, especially for recreational uses such as hunting and fishing. SAM is proposing a constitutional amendment to allot one-eighth of 1 percent of state sales tax revenue to a fund dedicated to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, which Bell says is underfunded and overworked. SAM is also encouraging the hunting of coyotes to protect Maine's deer herds.
