Abstract

Both large and small Maine companies are beginning to incorporate the use of iPads and other tablets into their business plans. A report done by Forrester Research anticipates that U.S. tablet sales will increase from 10.3 million in 2010 to 44 million in 2015. Some Maine companies are developing tablet apps to add value to their existing products or are having custom tablet apps developed for their sales teams. Idexx Laboratories has developed an veterinary app that lets veterinarians share images from Idexx's digital imaging software with clients and email results. Idexx also plans to utilize iPads as a resource for their sales force. Waterville-based Pinnacle IT created a custom app for Pine State Trading's sales representatives that helps them efficiently share product information with clients and has boosted their sales. With sidebars about smaller scale business uses for iPads and technology that lets businesses use iPads to process credit card transactions.
