Abstract

The Maine Seed Capital Tax Credit Program, administered by the Finance Authority of Maine, has helped 50 small companies launch new initiatives since 2008 by authorizing state income tax credits for investors, but the program's funds are now nearly depleted. Support for renewed funding for the tax credit is opposed by some of the state's Republicans. Advocates for the credit cite the positive impact it can have on the state's bottom line. With a chart showing how far Maine lags behind the other New England states in venture capital investment.
