Abstract

Piece on the Ocean Renewable Power Company's pioneering development of turbine technologies. In September, the company's tidal-power turbine in Cobscook Bay generated electricity for the commercial grid. Next year, they plan to test their river turbine in the Kvichat River in Alaska. The company hopes to achieve grid parity by 2020, but until then, costs are high because of the need to gather environmental data, get permits, and resolve questions of installation and maintenance, needs common to most product development processes.
