Abstract

Piece about Maine companies that are doing business in Asia. China is Maine’s No. 2 trading partner in total dollar value. Brian McNamara, president and CEO of Falmouth-based Southworth International Group, says that his firm has been in China for 25 years, and urges caution. John Markin, president and CEO of Portland-based EnviroLogix, also speaks about the differences in Chinese business practices that can be challenging, but he, too, sees there a potentially lucrative market. Includes sidebar about doing business in Japan, with a particular emphasis on L.L. Bean’s partnerships in Japan.
