Abstract

While the Boston/Cambridge area, Silicon Valley and Research Triangle Park are known for top research environments, Maine Medical Center Research Institute has proven to be an attractive environment for researchers as well, as principal investigator Michaela Regan commented “You don’t have to be at Harvard to do good science,” Finding funding can be difficult. All MMCRI researchers must fund their own lab. Funding from the federal government, foundations and private companies are easier to obtain at larger, competitive institutions. Recent budget cuts in federal and state funding are a concern.
