Abstract

Despite cost reduction, the subject of workers compensation remains the primary concern of Maine business people. Rates have gone down, the number of insurance carriers has grown from 3 to over 100, and a 1997 bill led to the hiring of worker advocates to assist workers in any matter. A related development is that union workers say the recent reduction in workplace injuries comes from the inability to collect on, and therefore report, injuries. Details.
