Abstract

In-depth look at the instrument manufacturers of Maine. Worldwide demand keeps these one-person shops and small companies busy. Dana Bourgeois of Bourgeois Guitars in Lewiston recently partnered with California's Eastman Music Co. to make a line of lower-priced models for a larger customer base. Toby Rzepka, John Slobod, and Nathan Slobodkin make custom instruments -- guitars, violins, cellos -- that usually sell direct to customers, although they, too, have seen global sales.
