Abstract

An article on the almost-complete renovation of the Portland Public Library, which will include new, separate areas for children, teens, serious researchers and general browsing. The library is now rebuilt out to the street and its renovated public spaces can be separated from the main library and be used outside of normal operating hours. New access to skylights and new windows, along with the orientation to Monument Square, bring the building to the square and the city, where it was formerly somewhat insular.
