Abstract

Article describing the recent roundtable discussion on the state of the gay community in Maine, with a focus on the same-sex marriage debate. Featuring an interview in question-and-answer format with: Sive Neilan, a long-time activist and secretary of the Portland Democratic Party; Pat Peard, a local attorney who does pro-bono work on behalf of gays and lesbians; Father David Bellville, an Anglican priest and founder of an all-gay church, the Church of the Good Samaritan in Brunswick; Professor Howard Solomon, adjunct professor of history and Scholar-in-Residence at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Collection at the University of Southern Maine; and Tim Curran, a 27-year-old, openly gay police officer in Old Orchard Beach and a member of the New England-based Officer's Action League.
