Abstract
"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on two tax-reform bills sponsored by state senator Ethan Strimling, D-Portland. The first measure would expand the sales tax to cover many exempt items, which account for over $650 million a year in lost revenue. The second bill would create several new middle-income tax brackets for the state income tax.
