Abstract

An article on a federal bill, the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, intended to repeal the military's "Don't Ask-Don't Tell" (DADT) policy for gays in the service. Discharges of gays have paradoxically skyrocketed since DADT, and most voters agree it is time for a change. Maine representatives, Mike Michaud and Tom Allen, support the bill, but Maine's two senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, do not see a problem with DADT and say staff members haven't indicated concern about the constitutionality of the issue.
