Abstract

Article on the death of 26-year-old Edward Okeny, who was found October 20 on a Portland street with an empty wallet and a fractured skull. The Sudanese immigrant died 18 days later, and Portland police have yet to determine what happened to him, and whether he fell to his death or was murdered. Family and friends in the Sudanese community are frustrated with the lack of answers and feel that the story has been under reported by the media. Peter Okeny, Edward's brother, believes that Edward was attacked and is hoping for forensic evidence to yield some clues. William Ridge, deputy police chief, says police found "no evidence at all," but that tests from the Medical Examiner's Office might determine how Edward came to suffer the blow on the back of his head.
