Abstract

Portland businesses are blurring the line between eateries and art galleries to the benefit of starving artists. Throughout the city, with wall space in formal art galleries at a premium, coffeehouses, restaurants, bars and sandwich shops have become the venue of choice for many artists who recognize the utility of heavy consumer traffic, greater accessibility, and walls that are, in most cases, donated to creative individuals free of charge.
