Abstract
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 8,372 Asian and Pacific Islanders living in the state of Maine as of July 1, 1996, nearly half of them in Cumberland and York Counties. The number of Asian-owned businesses in Maine more than doubled between 1987 and 1992, to 483 firms. With an overview of various specialty products available at some of Portland's Asian grocery stores.
