Abstract

Preview of a Chautauqua being held in Unity Sept. 21-22. Chautauquas, popular between 1900 and 1920, are barnstorming, populist-tinged festivals featuring speeches, workshops, music, food and theater, and were referred to by President Theodore Roosevelt as "the most American thing in America." The Unity Chautauqua is the first in a series being held across the country and organized by David Kubiak and his group, Big Medicine. The event will be held in conjunction with the Common Ground Fair.
