Abstract

Last April, while visiting his son in New Orleans, Ken Palmer, 54, of Portland, was shot during a robbery attempt when he refused to lead the robber into his son's apartment. His legs are permanently paralyzed, and he has partial use of his arms and hands. Palmer taught for 19 years in the Portland schools and now runs a tax preparation business. On March 24, at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, some of his former students will be among the performers at a benefit concert for the Kenneth Palmer Family Trust. With a profile of the popular former teacher, who says he is "amazed" by plans for the concert.
