Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on the Maine Photo Co-op, which was founded by local amateur photographers Bill Gillis and Morgan Haworth as an artist's community center, where beginners and experts, fine-art and commercial photographers alike could meet and engage in a dialogue about photography. Last year, near financial collapse, local photographers and interim director Peter Shellenberger rallied to save it. The board is now looking to its new director, Mary Jo Steckevicz, to secure the co-op's future.
