Abstract

Harold Porter, 61, of Sanford, wants to start a new Maine museum of hunting, fishing, and camping, activities he says are part of Maine's heritage. A Houlton native, he has no personal interest in hunting and doesn't camp much, but has never lost a feeling for the romance of camping. About 25 years ago, he started collecting fishing and camping paraphernalia, some of which he displayed at a sportsmen's convention in Augusta recently. Despite his lack of financial backing, he hopes his museum dream will one day become a reality.
