Abstract

"Inside story" piece on a minimalist and energy-efficient Mt. Desert Island retreat built by Scotsman and software guru Richard Kelman, whose daughter attended the University of Maine. A4 Architects and landscape designer Mike Gillis of Acadia Design Studio worked together on the design, which was executed by McEnroe Builders. The greatest challenge was planning construction around a nesting pair of eagles on an island just off the property.
