Abstract

Musician Jason Hjort, who has played in most of Portland's bars and clubs, reviews some popular ones that feature musical entertainment, while acknowledging that Portland's night life leaves much to be desired. He rates Brian Boru, Ri Ra, Bull Feeney's (Irish pubs), Gritty McDuff's, Geno's, The Big Easy, The Station, The Asylum (rock clubs), Liquid Blue, Threeways, Bubba's Sulky Lounge (dance clubs), Una, Plush, Lava Lounge, 51 Wharf, Top of the East, The White Heart (cocktail lounges), Blackstones, SpringStreet, Styxx (gay-friendly clubs), the (closed) State Theatre, Austin's Boot & Buckle Saloon, and SPACE.
