Abstract

Several Chinese export decorative items have come up for auction at Maine auction houses in recent months. China Trade or export denotes items made in the East specifically for the western market, but may include pieces bought as souvenirs by visiting western sailors. An eighteenth-century Chinese rhino horn libation cup recently sold at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries for $22,000. A pair of Rose Canton bough pots sold at James D. Julia Auctioneers for $5,750.
