Maine author Sarah Orne Jewett and Boston socialite, writer and philantropist Annie Adams Fields were close friends, traveling companions and life partners. From today's perspective, it could appear that they were homosexual, however not all scholars agree on this. The article discusses their relationship and the times in which they lived. [images]
