Abstract

A Maine Department of Human Services study shows that 120 children under the age of 19 committed suicide between 1984 and 1992, with 74 of them using guns -- Maine's suicide rate among individuals between the ages of 15 and 24 for the period 1988 through 1991 was 1549 per 100,000 residents, as compared to a national rate of 132 per 100,000 people
