Scott Berube, 25, of Sanford, was yesterday sentenced in York County Superior Court to serve 12 years in jail for having caused the death of 85-year-old Florence Downs on Main Street in Sanford in July 1992 -- The woman was struck by Berube while she was crossing the street to reach her mailbox In imposing the severe sentence the judge chastised Berube, who has numerous other speeding convictions in Maine and Massachusetts
