Abstract

Flowers Industries Inc. of Thomasville, Georgia, the nation's fifth-largest producer of baked and snack foods, yesterday said it had reached an agreement in principle to purchase the John J. Nissen Baking Co. of Portland. Nissen has 300 employees in Portland, and has other plants in Brewer, Worcester, Mass., and West Falls, R.I. Flowers had sales of $962 million in fiscal 1993.
