Abstract

E. Annie Proulx, 57, of Vershire, Vt., a 1953 graduate of Portland's Deering High School, yesterday was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for her novel "The Shipping News." The book, Proulx's second novel, is about a journalist who travels to Newfoundland on a journey of self-discovery. "Postcards," Proulx's first novel, won the prestigious PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. Details.
