Abstract

Gorham officials are preparing a stringent new firearms ordinance that will most likely prove controversial. The ordinance makes shooting illegal within 500 feet of any dwelling or occupied building withhout consent, whereas state law prohibits shooting within 300 feet of such buildings. The minimun fine would be $100; the maximum $5,000, and the town would be allowed to recover legal expenses for prosecution.
