Abstract

Chip Ridky, a Maine state veterinarian and a member of the Maine Rabies Work Group, is involved in publishing the Maine Rabies Management Manual, a guide to dealing with rabies that will be distributed to 2,000 municipal and state officials. Two strains of rabies are currently headed for the state, a racoon-carried strain from the south and a strain of fox rabies from Canada, and state and local officials are trying to prepare themselves for potential outbreaks.
