Abstract

The School of American Dance, which has been training young dancers for more than 80 years, has transformed itself into the Maine State School for the Performing Arts, and has added classes in theater and music. The faculty has been expanded, and now includes Stuart Shuster, who will lead a boys choir; David Goulet, who will teach a class on aria singing; and Tony Montanaro, who will lead a workshop on creative movement. The ballet school has averaged 500 to 600 students annually, and attendance may double.
