Abstract

The Scarborough Town Council yesterday voted to name the new turnpike connector road, which will link Payne Road with Route 1, after Dr. Philip J. Haigis, who died in June at age 78. Haigis in 1944 became the town's only physician, and in 1951 formed the Scarborough Rescue Unit, the first organization of it kind in the state.
