The Portland City Council got its first look at a proposal to build a passenger
The Portland City Council got its first look at a proposal to build a passenger rail station behind the old Maine Central Railroad building on St. John Street. Though the councilors generally support the idea of returning passenger service to the area many are concerned about Portland's share of the estimated $1.8 million project. The city, state and federal government are expected to divide the cost, but some Portland officials have suggested that surrounding communities particpate in the financing.
