Abstract

Portland city manager Robert Ganley believes the city councilors should make the final decision regarding the possible demolition of the balconies in the City Hall Auditorium, a move being considered by Auditorium Building Renovations Committee in order to improve acoustics and sightlines. Saving the balconies could add as much as $ million to $3 million to the overall costs of the project. The auditorium is considered the state's finest example of a 20th-century grand hall.
