Abstract

A total of 17 of the 78 offshore commercial casualties reported in the fishing industry in Maine and New Hampshire recently have been among sea urchin harvesters. Current Maine law does not require proof of diving experience for applicants seeking an urchin harvesting license, prompting some to call for increased regulation of the $15 million annual industry.
