Abstract

Allen Pouliot of Winslow on April 4 caught a 10-pound rainbow trout in the upper Kennebec River, and veteran outdoor columnist Gene Letourneau declared the fish a new state record. Unnamed Bingham anglers say they saw a fisherman at a sediment pond below a private fish hatchery that once raised rainbow trout, creating a controversy over whether the fish qualifies as a record. Another problem is that rainbox trout are not on the state list of trophy fish.
