Abstract

Brunswick Area Citizens for a Safe Environment in 1990 became the first environmental group in the country to win a technical assistance grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The group has played a major role in pressuring the U.S. Navy to clean up the 14 Superfund sites at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. The new $11 million groundwater treatment plant at BNAS is designed to suck up groundwater and neutralize an underground plume of contaminated water.
