Abstract

In an effort to contain costs, managed care agencies have hired case managers to ensure mental health patients are treated in the quickest and most cost-effective way possible. The case manager system, according to some observers, undermines the patient-doctor relationship and shifts rather than cuts costs. Green Spring of Maryland, under contract with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maine, dominates the managed mental care market in Maine. Details.
