Abstract

Innovative pro-active policing efforts called Community-Oriented Policing and Problem-Oriented Policing have changed the relationship between police departments and the neighborhoods they work in. Such programs in Lewiston, Bucksport, Norway and Rumford have been found to work, and have resulted in police bicycle patrols, neighborhood cleanup efforts and summer basketball programs.
