Abstract

Aggressive drug searches were conducted in public schools statewide in December. The U.S. Supreme Court has approved such searches, but the expansion of the Supreme Court mandate to backpacks and automobiles is questionable. Attorney Richard O'Meara says that the recent searches trample on students' privacy rights. Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson drafted a proposed search policy and forwarded it to several area schools.
