Abstract

Maine is currently one of three states that does not regulate the taking of reptiles and amphibians, but a bill recently introduced by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife would change that by protecting turtles and snakes from commercial harvesting. Critics contend that the bill does not go far enough since it offers no protection to salamanders, frogs, or toads.
