Abstract

Maine Coast Artists has proposed charging a fee to artists seeking to enter the annual juried exhibition, and artists statewide have decided to boycott the popular show. MCA Executive Director John Chandler said the unpopular policy of imposing a fee for the juried show was one outcome of severe cutbacks in government grants and local donations. Chandler expects to raise less than one-third of the $19,000 cost of the show through entry fees. Some artists believe they already help MCA substantially by donating works to the annual fund-raising auction. Details.
